Five Quarantine Time Killers

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

Here's a random list of five movies I enjoyed the most this quarantine period. Have a read!

MOVIE REVIEW: The Dictator

As far as satirical movies go, The Dictator is sure to be one of the best-of-all times. Sure, it's an adult film, but the plot is excellent, and the presentation is way too hilarious. Dictator Aladeen is a pretty brutal ruler, he is the leader of an oil-empire, and he is way too rich. Envious of his wealth is his uncle, Tamir, who happens to be Aladeen's General as well. With his international cronies at a meeting in New York, the General plots against Aladeen. The rest of the movie covers the hilarious attempts of Aladeen to oust his Tamir-sourced doppelganger.

MOVIE REVIEW: Suck Me Shakespeer

This 2013 comedy is my first in German movies. SMS is the US Version of **** you Göethe, the original German film. Zeki, the protagonist, is out of jail, and he knows his friend has buried the money he looted in a construction site, which happens to be under a school. He moves into the school in the pretext of a teacher with the real aim of looting the money. The romantic side-tracks weren't necessary to the plot, but it sure adds to the comedy element. This movie is a one-time watch.

MOVIE REVIEW: Superbad

Superbad is one movie to enjoy Friday night and fill it with the nostalgia of childhood. It's a strict teen movie in some sense, though. The fantasies of school-going young adults take center-stage throughout the film. Seth, Evan, and Fogell have a house-party to go. The problem is they need alcohol, although they are underage. Eventually, they attend the party and its on their last day of school as well. There is a bit of adult comedy in some parts of the movie, but if you can see past that, Superbad is one movie for nostalgia.

MOVIE REVIEW: Jersey

Jersey's of the best Telugu movies hands down. And it's not due to its cast or cash; this time, its content and that too from Tollywood. Nani pulls off the role of Arjun, a heavily talented yet failed cricketer, with ease. Shraddha Srinath's part of Arjun's supportive wife is commendable too. The family is going through troubled times in life after Arjun had lost his job. With no other passion other than cricket, Arjun decides to make a comeback in his late thirties, at an age when most players leave the game. This movie is a must-watch and is sure to get you motivated if you feel jaded or lost.

Rating: 4/5

MOVIE REVIEW: Maheshinte Prathikaaram

MP is a 2016 movie with a refreshingly good story. The screenplay is good, and the actors are brilliant. Fahadh Faasil plays Mahesh, a photographer. In one trivial issue that sparks up a village fight, Mahesh tries to be a peacemaker but gets beaten up by a stranger. The stranger was too strong for Mahesh to handle and he feels insulted after the fight. Mahesh is not ready to bow down, and he waits for the opportune moment to take his revenge. Though the plot seems too trivial, the directorial brilliance ensures that one does not feel bored throughout the movie. The movie is set in the backdrop of Idukki's hills and is a feast for the eyes.
